Entertaining verse and history combine in this exciting new book by Tony Johnson. King Arthur smells of Toast is riotous reading for eight years up. This Epic-curean History of Britain - explains such important details as how badly-packed sandwiches caused Harold to lose the Battle of Hastings, and was it custard, and not an apple, that inspired Newton?
Superbly illustrated by the well-known artist Mike Terry.
Hardback: with numerous full colour images, and a glossary.....
What? A glossary in a children's book? Are you people mad!
We recognise that young people simply don’t like being talked down to - they have expectations, they are eager to learn, and constantly aim higher. Exploring language and encountering new and dynamic words are a fundamental part of every child's reading experience. Early books should encourage young readers to move onward and upward. 'Pupils should be taught to develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding ......' (from the UK's National Curriculum: poetry the primary in Key Stage One).
So, we don't do fluffy rabbits, elves, or magic wands, and only a few cats (come on - there has to be cat or two!). We aim not only to entertain, but make learning new words and history a whole lot of fun!
If you are a teacher wishing to captivate and enthral a young audience - then this is the book for you! Explore our forthcoming teacher's aids at the top of the page.
